  • How to Hear God's Voice Pt. 2

hearing from God, communicating with God, hear God's voice

Continuing on from my previous post, sometimes it's easy for me to tune God out.  Not just by filling my life with noise and busyness, but also just ignoring the different ways that He does speak to me. The other day, I began to list out the various messages that I was receiving, and I realized -- Wow, His message is coming across loud and clear.  I was just too distracted to hear it.

I wanted to write them out here to a) remind myself that God does indeed speak in my life and b) to encourage others to pay attention to what God may be doing in their lives.  I won't go too much into detail as to the actual message (some things you want to keep treasured in your heart), but I hope this gives you an idea of the diverse ways God can communicate with us if we're only willing to stop and listen. Click to keep reading...

  • Souvenirs from Korea

    pucca chocolates

The PCA girls just got back from HK and Korea.  They were sweet enough to bring us internationally-themed Pucca chocolates and Korean drama "Boys Before Flowers" chocolates.  I loved the British Pucca wrapper so much that I carefully peeled it off and put it up on my bedroom door as decoration.

  • How to Hear God's Voice Pt. 1

hearing God's voice, God's voice, noise and God's voice

    Cartoon by Matt Glover

What does God's voice sound like? When I was a kid, I used to think that God spoke in an audible voice to people, or through visions. I thought that He just chose not to speak to me.

By the time I hit adolescence, I thought God only spoke through the advice of other people and through poignant song lyrics. So I searched for that overwhelming moment of emotional and spiritual enlightenment.

When I got to college, I became convinced that I had filled my life with so much busyness and noise that I had drowned God out. My solution was to spend time sitting in silence, reading Bible verses, hoping to somehow (I wasn't sure how) hear the Lord speak.

Now that I'm an adult (or at least, I'm adult-aged), it's become even more imperative that I know and hear God's voice. This stage of life comes with so many decisions about the kind of person we want to be, or the kind of life we want to live. Keep reading this post...

  • Faith and Holiness

holiness and faith, link between holiness and faith, obedience and belief, conviction and confidence, commands and promises, God's promises, Christian holiness and faith

"Faith and holiness are inextricably linked.  Obeying the commands of God usually involves believing the promises of God.  One definition of faith might be 'Obeying the revealed will of God and trusting Him for the results.'"
"The path of obedience in the pursuit of holiness is often contrary to human reason.  If we do not have conviction in the necessity of obeying the revealed will of God as well as confidence in the promises of God, we will never persevere in this difficult pursuit."

    - Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness
